Download the installer for the Adobe PostScript printer driver (AdobePS) from the Adobe website at platformwin. #DOWNLOAD ADOBE PDF PPD FOR QUARKXPRESS INSTALL#Acrobat Reader alone does not have any other ability other than to view PDFs (that's why it's free, it doesn't do the other stuff the paid product does). Choose > Start > Printers and Faxes > Add Printer, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install a PostScript printer. #DOWNLOAD ADOBE PDF PPD FOR QUARKXPRESS FULL VERSION#The full version of Acrobat contains Acrobat (basically Reader with additional tools) and Acrobat Distiller (the program that converts EPS and PS and PRN files to PDFs). You will need (unless I am corrected here by someone) the full version of Acrobat to create a PDF from the PS file. It wasn't until QuarkXPress 6.0 came along that you could export directly to PDF using a built-in PDF engine. Since PS printers tend to be expensive devices, virtual printers provide a way to create a PS file (and/or PDF) without actually having to have a real, physical PS printer. XPress is looking for a postscript printer because to create a postscript file (properly) you need a postscript printer. What you are really doing is Exporting a postscript file and then sending that file to Acrobat Distiller (either immediately or later based on your settings). However, all the PDF Filter XT did was make a routine process simpler. That function is provided by the PDF Filter XTension. That is because they did not natively have Export to PDF. Versions 4 and 5.x of XPress required that you have the full version of Acrobat in order to create a PDF. ![]() Inside XPress when you go to export, make sure this printer has the Acrobat Distiller PPD selected. Go to the Chooser and select the new printer you created as the printer you want to print with. Run this utility and set up a PS printer using the Acrobat Distiller PPD. It's usually either in the Utiilities folder or the Apple Extras folder- I can't remember exactly where. Find the utility called Desktop Printer Utility. (where 9.x.x is your version of OS9 (I'm assuming you are using OS9)) System Folder 9.x.x:Extensions:Printer Descriptions After you unstuff the archive, put the PPD drivers in the following folder: If you are on Mac, then follow these instructions that I gave to someone else a long time ago:Äownload the PPD files. Every time I try to create a PDF from Quark 6.0 by printing to the Adobe PDF 3015.102 printer, I get the following error message: Warning: Empty job. Click Print Printing PostScript Files USING QUARKXPRESS 6 / ADOBEPDF 7.0 PPD / OS X v10. If you are on Windows, then search the forums for virtual printer. Save again to return to the QuarkXPress Print dialog box. Exporting and importing PDFs was not a standard feature until XPress 6.x What you don't have is the virtual printer set up. The fact that you even have a File>Export option in QuarkXPress 5 indicates that the XTension is installed. ![]()
